Orlando Pirates have made a strategic move by signing Gilberto from Petro De Luanda for $600,000. This acquisition aims to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, showcasing their ambition to compete at the highest levels in African football.

Orlando Pirates have successfully secured the services of Gilberto, a talented winger from Petro De Luanda, with a $600,000 deal. This significant acquisition is expected to bolster the Pirates’ squad for the upcoming season. The deal saw the Pirates outbid several other clubs, including Sivasspor, Raja Athletic Club, CR Belouizdad, AS FAR, MKE Ankaragücü, and Club Dynamo Makhachkala.

Gilberto, aged 23, has been a standout performer in African football. He notably showcased his skills during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he helped Angola reach the quarter-finals. His impressive performance continued at Petro De Luanda, where he scored six goals and provided four assists in 34 games.

Initially, Gilberto’s buy-out clause was set at $750,000 (R13.6 million). However, after thorough negotiations, Orlando Pirates and Petro De Luanda reached an agreement to finalize the deal at $600,000. This allows Gilberto to travel to South Africa to discuss personal terms and potentially sign a long-term contract. This move underscores Gilberto’s potential to become a significant player for the Buccaneers.
